Carving for a Cause: Better Homes and Gardens Offers Pumpkin Stencils that Benefit Charity

September 14, 2011

Fall is always a busy time in my family. In addition to several birthdays, there’s Halloween, one of our favorite holidays, and all of the preparation that goes along with it. In two weeks we’ll be making our annual pilgrimage to Burt’s Farm in north Georgia for the all-important selection of pumpkins. Then the real fun (and mess) begins as we attempt to carve our numerous pumpkins with the help of a bunch of really excited kids.

In the past we’ve always carved “free-style” – competing for who can create the scariest face – but really usually ending up with a bunch of not-so-scary faces made of circles, squares, and triangles. Not this time! This year, our pumpkins will be professional quality with a little help from Better Homes and Gardens. The magazine has devised a unique way to help charities by capitalizing on the popularity of its downloadable pumpkin stencils.

Every September and October, pumpkins and pumpkin stencils are the most popular content on BHG.com. This year — for the first time ever — Better Homes and Gardens is tapping into the popularity of its stencils to support a selection of nonprofit partners, including For Momentum client and friend Rebuilding Together.

Better Homes and Gardens projects that the “Carving for a Cause” campaign will generate nearly 23 million impressions (both in print and online) for its five nonprofit partners among BHG’s core audience of active and influential consumers. In addition to the awareness campaign, a $2.00 donation to the charity will be made for each stencil downloaded, up to a maximum of $5,000 per charity ($25,000 total).

Better Homes and Gardens worked with each charity to create unique pumpkin stencils that reflect the nonprofit’s mission. Rebuilding Together’s selections feature a cute cottage scene or a welcome home sign. To download the Rebuilding Together stencils, click here.

About Rebuilding Together: Rebuilding Together is the nation’s leading nonprofit organization working to preserve affordable homeownership and revitalize neighborhoods by providing extensive rehabilitation and modification services to those in need at no cost to those served. With the help of everyday citizen volunteers, skilled trades people, the support of local business and major corporate partners, Rebuilding Together affiliates in America’s largest cities and smallest towns make life considerably better for thousands of low-income homeowners and the communities in which they live by completing 10,000 projects per year. Rebuilding Together has programs dedicated to energy efficiency, veteran’s housing, aging in place and Gulf Coast reconstruction.
