SEPTEMBER 13 – SEPTEMBER 27, 2012 EDITION
A compilation of current cause marketing resources, information and expertise sourced on Twitter to keep you inspired and “in the know.”
SAVE LIDS TO SAVE LIVES
Campaign worthy of mention and just in time for Pinktober (it’s almost like they planned it that way!) Guess it must be working for them because General Mills is significantly expanding the (formerly Yoplait exclusive) Save Lids to Save Lives Campaign to 12 additional brands incorporating a kamillion (ok maybe not THAT many…) products and upping their donation to 2.5 MM. Also added is an interactive Dedications Page where lid collectors can dedicate their collection in honor of a loved one. Plus, in an important response to findings that donors want to keep the impact of their giving local – and a nice touch in a creepy big brother is watching kind of way – zip codes from lids redeemed are tracked to make sure donations go back to breast cancer outreach programs in local communities.
HOW CROWDSOURCING CAN HELP YOUR NONPROFIT
This is a really helpful and well-done basic explanation of Crowdsourcing including easy-to-understand examples. Consider it Crowdsourcing 101. I like this overview because as the cause marketing, social good, csr, etc. industry continues to grow (and grow) – which is very exciting – terminology is blending and evolving. It is good to sometimes take a moment and focus on the “whys and hows”. Great resource!
CONSCIOUS CAPITALISM: CAN EMPATHY CHANGE THE WORLD?
Conscious Capitalism, another great term to add to the cause marketing terminology mix – plus it makes me feel important just saying it! In addition to being interesting this blog has a nice BOGO bonus as it discusses how conscious capitalism has led to, among other things, a new legal description for corporations – B Corps, something we are seeing being talked about publicly with greater frequency of late. B Corps are described here as “companies working together to be not just the best in the world, but the best for the world.” Not bad for a day’s work!
CAUSE TALK RADIO: A CAUSE MARKETING HISTORY LESSON FROM BRUCE BURTCH
This link will take you to a recorded interview of Bruce Burtch the “Father of Cause Marketing” by Joe Waters and Megan Strand – esteemed cause marketing industry professionals. This is worth the listen as Burtch discusses both his philosophy of cause marketing as well as his vast experience – which spans decades. The interview gives listeners lots of food for thought including the critical importance of – engagement, identifying needs & alignment and factoring campaign longevity – to name a few. Wicked interesting!
