Last week, GivingTuesday announced #GivingTuesdayNow, a global day of giving and unity set to take place on May 5, 2020 as an emergency response to COVID-19.
This is an opportunity for nonprofits and companies to raise awareness and funds for causes they care about. To help, we pulled together three tips for both nonprofits and companies to help prepare your #GivingTuesdayNow campaigns. These strategies can help you multiply your impact, highlight the work you’re doing for the community, and go to market quickly.
For Momentum’s 3 Tips for Activating a
#GivingTuesdayNow Campaign
Nonprofits:
Multiply Impact by Engaging Corporate Partners: Many companies are looking for turnkey activations to make an impact and provide opportunities for employee engagement. Reach out to your partners and share a few simple ways they can amplify their support by engaging in your #GivingTuesdayNow campaign via employee matching donations, social sharing campaigns leveraging their channels and/or offering challenge grants to boost donations.
Build off of Existing Giving Strategies: Use, repurpose and leverage existing creative materials for this new May 5th day of giving. Did you build creative and digital communications around #GivingTuesday in 2019? Or have you had to cancel a previously scheduled campaign once the pandemic hit? If so, how can you leverage this creative and repurpose it for this new May 5th day of giving?
Motivate with the Movement: Be sure to register with the #GivingTuesdayNow campaign. Organizers are urging participating organizations to focus on community at this time. Motivate your followers through compelling calls to action and sharable content. Highlight how donations will create impact by featuring social math. See more tips from the team at GivingTuesday.
Companies:
Elevate Existing Relationships: Brainstorm ways you can pivot or expand your planned COVID-19 support via this new giving day. Reach out to your current nonprofit partners to see how they are planning to participate in #GivingTuesdayNow and how you can support them. Think about your existing channels and how you can leverage them to spread the word to your customers and employees.
Multiply Impact by Engaging Employees: Employees are looking to their companies for ways to help during this crisis. From matching their donations, offering virtual volunteer opportunities to equipping them with social content, this is the perfect opportunity to multiply your impact while showing your employees you care.
Leverage Existing Channels: This is not the time to reinvent the wheel. Since there is a short timeframe to activate a #GivingTuesdayNow strategy, consider your most engaged social channels and any digital platforms you are already using to expand your reach. Consider a simple retweet or reshare type of communication if your social media team has the capability to track this data.
